Rachael W. Shah, Rewriting Partnerships win 2021 IARSLCE Publication of the Year!

November 22, 2021

The International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) Publication of the Year celebrates the author of a single published scholarly article, book chapter, book, or book series that has had or will have a significant impact on the study and/or practice of service-learning and community engagement.

The 2021 Publication of the Year is awarded to Rachael W. Shah, associate professor of English at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln, for her book Rewriting Partnerships: Community Perspectives of Community-Based Learning. The book is a thoughtful, robust exploration of how to take seriously the experiences and knowledges of the communities who partner with universities. Centering the voices of more than 80 community members, the book challenges common assumptions about who can create knowledge about community-based learning while exploring structural changes to the design of community engagement programs that create space for community voices, from community advisory boards to participatory evaluation.
